These photos of Mt
Mckinley (Denali) were
taken at the Denali
Viewpoint South at
mile 134.7 of the Parks
Highway. On a clear
day this is one of the
very best views of
Mckinley anywhere.
The photo above is from the parking lot of the South Viewpoint.
Photo on the right and below is a moonset over McKinley.
========================================================================================================= Photos From Palmer/Knik, Hatcher Pass:
|
Above left is Reflection Lake. Above are the mountains south
of Palmer and the Matanuska River. Below I am parked at the
base of Pioneer Peak. Below left is the Matanuska River
(mile 16.2 Old Glenn) looking south toward the Knik Glacier.
On the Left is a shot of
(from left to right) Mt.
Foraker (17,400 feet), Mt.
Hunter (14,573 feet), and
Mt. Mckinley (20,320 feet)
as seen from Kashwitna lake
at mile 76.4 of the Parks
Highway.
On the left is fireweed in
bloom at Hatcher Pass just
north of Palmer. Don't miss
Hatcher Pass!
On the right is lupine in bloom
along the Matanuska River. To
get there, follow the Old
Glenn Highway a few miles
south of Palmer to mile 16.2.
Below left is Reflection Lake.
To reach it, take the Knik
River Access exit at mile 30.6
of the Glenn Highway. There
is a road (blocked by a fence)
leading back to the lake. Just
walk around the fence.
